The word ‘still” as a noun, means calmness, deep silence, peace etc. As a verb, ‘still’ means to be calm, silent, quiet etc. The phrase ‘be still’ was derived from the Hebrew word “raphah’ which means “to be weak”, “to let go “, “to release” which ultimately means to surrender.
The Bible in Psalm 46:10 says be still and know that I am God. This verse can be stated differently as ‘Surrender yourself and know that I am God.’ When you find yourself or someone or a loved one in a time of uncertainty and turbulence, God says “Be Still” or “Surrender yourself.
As Christians, God expects us to surrender our all to him. HE has a track record of coming through for us at all times. His strength is made perfect in our weakness.
Back in college, I had a bit of Math-phobia. I’d try what seems to be my best to workout a Maths work but to no avail. I remember always going to a friend of mine who was very good at it. I had no doubt at all that this friend at the end of the day, would help me solve the problem; and she always did.
As Christians, God reminds us that there will be trials and tribulations, that you will sometimes find yourself between a hard place and a rock, that the situation may look bleak sometimes, but we must always remember that we have an anchor in Christ Jesus who will give beauty for ashes and strength for weakness.
This same Christ Jesus who healed, still heals the sick, raises the dead and walks upon the sea. Who better than Him to look up to?
Christ shows up when we are still and when we surrender it all unto Him. He gives us peace that surpasses all understanding and never fails.
Be still and know that He’s God!!.
